This is a story about a marriage of convenience between Nick Callahan and Claire Kendrick.
Nick is a very handsome, very successful and very rich president of a multimillion dollar company. Nick has never had a problem dating and getting any woman that he wanted and often did. He would date a woman until she started to become possessive, clingy and started to see marriage in their future and them he would dump them. Nick wasn't always this way, in fact he was in love with and married to a woman named Jill. Jill made it no secret that she wanted the life of Jet Setting, night life and spending Nick's money, Nick however was in love and thought things would chance until he found himself divorced and heartbroken. After that, Nick decided that he no longer believed in falling in love.

Claire worked at Nick's company and one day found herself summoned to the 50th floor to meet with the president of the company. Claire couldn't figure out what business the president could possibly want with her until he informed her that he wanted her to write a article about him for CEO magazine. She was baffled by this because not only was she not qualified to do it but, she had only she had only written one article before and it was only as a favor. She voiced her concerns to Nick but, he was persistent and decided to do the job but, was suspicious of him because she knew that there was more to this than what he was saying.

Claire had been caring for her mother who was put in a nursing home after a boating accident killed her father and seriously injured her mother. It had become a financial burden on her especially now that the home has informed her that the stay has been increased by $300 a month and Claire realizes that she has no way of paying and may have to put her mother in a State Hospital. Nick see her worry and after finding out what is wrong, makes her an offer. He offers to take care of her and her mother for the rest of their lives and all that she has to do is agree to marry him, give him children,and not nag him. He also let her know that there would be no falling in love involved because he didn't believe in love.

Claire had no choice but to take Nick up on his offer and try not to fall in love with him but, for her its too late, now can se get Nick to feel the same

This is a really good book and the story line was easy to follow which is always a plus.

This story broke my heart and then healed it. Great story about two people who get married for convenience. He analytically chooses Claire as the perfect wife while she needs Nick to help pay for her mother's care. Misconceptions and miscommunications cause these two to go their separate ways; neither willing to admit their feelings for each other. This story will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride, but eventually you can put away the tissues.
This was a wonderful marriage of convenience story. Claire's mother is in a nursing home where her care is very expensive. When the head of the company she works for asks her to write a story about him for public relations she has no idea he has an ulterior motive. Nick had been married once, a huge mistake on his part. While he still wants a wife and children, he decides to approach marriage this time from a business standpoint. He's checked Claire out and is satisfied she fits the bill. At first she's angry at the way he goes about it but then realizes her mother will always have the care she needs if she goes through with the marriage. I fell in love with these characters. The plot was familiar but the development of both Claire and Nick made it refreshingly new. Will definitely be reading more of this author.
It was a little creepy in the beginning with the fake article she was to write and how much he investigated her. But half way thru and till the end I couldn't put it down. Now I'm wondering why isn't there a book 2? Did they have a kid? Did the adopt? What about Peachy and Tim? Maybe they get together? Still a lot unanswered questions.

The nursing home is about to increase their rates, three hundred a month, Clare can barely make the payments now, what is she going to do? She doesn't want to send her mother to the state run home; she knows Kitty won't get the care she needs.

Nick has decided that Claire has all the attributes he wants in a wife, he just needs to convince her that an arranged marriage with set rules is just thing to provide her and her mother safety. He never wants to fall in love again. He doesn't trust the emotion, but Claire is so giving and peaceful that he finds himself fighting his own heart every step of the way.

Kitty gets sick and before they know it, she is gone. Claire now has to decide how to go about her marriage; her husband doesn't love her, after six months she still has not gotten pregnant, her mother is gone and she now feels that her reasons for marrying Nick are invalid. He needs a wife that can be the society female for him, and that can give him the children he so desperately wants. Can she find a way out of this marriage that doesn't break her heart? Can Nick find a way to keep her that doesn't mean he has to open his heart to the love he can no longer deny?

I wasn't sure about this book, but once I started it I could not put it down. I got so caught up in the emotions of these characters and the side characters that I had to keep reading. My heart broke with Claire a couple of times, the woman I first saw as a doormat got under my skin and I felt everything she felt, her growing love for this impossible man, her care and love for her mother, her pain at the loss of the woman Kitty used to be, and at the loss of her father. Patricia Kay is a delightful author that I will be reading more of in the future. I am very happy to rate this book four stars.
