I liked this book. The title was perfect. Some titles don't help with recollection of the story at a later date. The title is about a "haunted" house. The reason for its name is revealed way into the book, but it's a good one.Apparently this is book two, but it was a great stand alone.
Anna is a genealogist who is given a job to put together a family tree but also unearth a murder for the sake of the owner being able to sell it for a higher amount as a haunted house
Odd things keep happening, odd noises from rooms that were supposed to be unoccupied, death of an employee, and one goes missing. Mysterious notes and clues Anna has to decipher, past unexplained deaths, and a strange cult-like society, all in this house Anna has to stay in to do her research.
Good stuff. Good book. (less)

Sparrow House Anna Denning Mystery Book 2 edition by Karin Kaufman Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Another great Kaufman mystery. As I reached the final chapters in this book, I was holding my breath for the main character, Anna Denning, her friend, Liz, and even her dog, Jackson. The author really made me feel I was IN the house with the characters, complete with its heavy, ominous atmosphere. All the characters seemed to have secrets, so I couldn't figure out the killer beforehand, which is unusual! The next Anna Denning mystery can't release soon enough!
Great mystery series. Well written with a Christian world-view. Great plots and well-developed characters. I highly recommend this series if you want a good mystery without foul language and sex scenes.
The plot of Sparrow House is spun wonderfully by Karin Kaufman. I struggled to unravel the mystery for about 3/4 of the book, and even when things started to fit together, there were still a few twists and turns to hold the interest.
There is one thing of which I am still uncertain what is the author's best attribute as a writer? Is it her imagination which enables her to invent such a clever mystery while at the same time never losing credibility? Or is it her extensive knowledge of a wide range of subjects (or perhaps her research skills?). The detail in Sparrow House is amazing and on point.
I also like that Ms. Kaufman doesn't rush the story line, and takes the time here and there to give insight into the personalities and personal lives of the main characters. Not only does it add to the understanding of the motivations, it gives the reader a greater appreciation for the ending of the book.
After the final chapter, it was stated that another book in the Anna Denning series is forthcoming this year. Part of me hopes it will be soon, but the other part wants the author to take whatever time is necessary to craft another outstanding cozy mystery. It will be worth the wait.
This story , # 2, begins with Anna going to Sparrow House to do a family tree and to find references to spooky hauntings so the house can be sold for more money as a B and B. On arrival she is given 4 days to complete the task and is allowed to bring her friend as well as her dog to spend the time to do the work faster. Right away a young male gardener is found unconscious in the garden and later dies. What follows is a twisted story of murder that covers 100 years. There is a serious twist at the end as to who the current murderer is and why. The weapon is a real " killer" too. Loved the book and can not wait for the next one.
This second book in the series is just as good as the first! Although the first book provided much more background information for the characters, it wasn't necessary to have all that info in order to fully enjoy this book. Once again, great editing with VERY few mistakes (always a plus, in my opinion) and another great mystery that kept me guessing who the "bad guy" was until the very end. I really like these characters and the writing has a great "flow" to it. So much so that I found myself reading every chance I got (even in the elevator at work!). Well done, Ms. Kaufman!! I can't wait to read book three!
I love series. Somehow, a book I enjoy, as much as I did The Witch Tree, always leaves me at the end wanting more. It feels as if I am left out of touch with someone about whom I've grown fond, and I wish to spend more time with someone as bright and cunning as Anna Denning. Sparrow House provided another smart, well-paced adventure with Anna, her character unfolding further and the mystery, once again, as typical with Ms. Kaufman's writing, cleverly crafted. The spooky old house, the weird happenings, the genealogical research all add up to one big surprise.
If you enjoy well-written mysteries, you will love Sparrow House. Light a fire, brew a cup of tea, and escape winter's chill.
Sparrow House (Anna Denning Mystery)
"Sparrow House" is another spell-binding mystery from the author of The Witch Tree (Anna Denning Mystery)
This one has all the elements we love in a mystery a big old decrepit "haunted" house, strange noises, murders (multiple), odd characters (also multiple) and of course the "good" folks - well some of them may be a bit questionable. All of this is combined with a gripping story and seasoned with descriptions of springtime in Colorado, and a touch of romance. I missed dinner last night because I couldn't stop reading until the end, and trust me I haven't missed very many dinners in my lifetime! I definitely recommend this, even if you're not an avid mystery reader, you won't be disappointed!
